TRAINING Typical of the horses raised on our ranch, Katonie spent most of his youth playing hard in the pasture winter and summer. They learn to manage rough terrain and deadfall, wildlife often come to visit, there is traffic on the nearby road, and our use of heavy equipment around them helps to develop their curiousity and ability to deal with life. We still had cows on the property when Katonie was growing up. We usually haul all of our yearlings to open shows for the halter classes - this exposes them to bathing, clipping, blankets, slinkies, trailering, standing tied to a trailer, and all the exposure of the show experience itself. Putting a saddle on is a minor event in their lives and Katonie readily adapted to having humans (and a variety of household pets, etc.) on his back. Our program teaches solid basic horsemanship skills drawn from western, english, jumping, reining, ranching, dressage, vaquero, and other practices to allow our youngsters to be successful in whatever discipline is important to you. |
SHOW EXPERIENCE Katonie spent one year in the open show pen with a confident novice teen. He enjoyed the attention and loved being bathed and hauled places. He earned PtHA points in Halter, English Pleasure, Western Pleasure and Barrel racing! |
